Area under Winter Storm Warning

Sunday, February 14, 2021

Winter weather will continue to impact the area in the coming days.

The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky, has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the area, in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The NWS expects heavy snow for the area between Sunday evening and Tuesday morning with accumulations of 3 to 6 inches locally.

Travel conditions will become dangerous tonight and Monday with Monday morning, Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes to be impacted.

North winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour with gusts at 20 miles per hour will likely cause blowing and drifting snow.

Along with the Winter Storm Warning, the NWS has issued a Wind Chill Advisory that remains in effect until noon Sunday.

Those who must travel are encouraged to keep an extra flashlight, food and water in the vehicle in case of emergency. Those traveling outside are told to use caution and wear appropriate clothing, a hat and gloves as frostbite can happen quickly.

A potential winter storm arriving late Wednesday into Thursday could also bring significant amounts of wintry precipitation to all or part of the region as well.
