SIKESTON — Michael Lee Thompson passed away at Evelyn's House-BJC Hospice in Creve Couer on Saturday, March 6, 2021. His family expresses heartfelt gratitude for their care over the past week, and for the prayerful support and practical helps of the body of Christ, Mike's friends and loved ones.
Born March 24, 1952, in Cape Girardeau, son of Thomas Ewing Thompson and Martha Adeline (Hart) Thompson; both parents now predecease him. He grew up in Morley attending school there then moved to Sikeston and graduated with his high school class of 1970, his hometown for remainder of life. 
Michael is a veteran of the Vietnam War. For his service, he earned Good Conduct & National Defense Service Medals. He served honorably in the U.S Army 1971-1973, achieving the rank of Spec4 while in Germany, and remaining in active reserve until 1977. 
He worked many years in the area as an independent painting contractor, then retired from Best Western Coach House following 20 years in property and grounds maintenance. 
Mike was an outdoor enthusiast for most his life and some best enjoyed times were spent hunting and fishing. In recent years he was pleased to take drives and enjoy the countryside. 
Mike is descended by three children, Daniel Thompson, Emily Mueller and Kristin Kelley; and five grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered by extended family and dear friends, siblings, Tommy and Debbie Thompson of the family home in Sikeston, Linda Metts of Germantown, Tennessee, as well as his nephews, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. His humor, kindness and helpful ways will be greatly missed. 
A Prayer and Thanksgiving visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon at Ponder Funeral Home, 1120 N. Main in Sikeston, this Thursday, March 11. Mike's lifelong friend, Christian brother and Bible teacher David Kelton will facilitate memorial. Those wanting to visit or attend assembly are welcome. No health restrictions in place other than current CDC guidelines.
