Fundraiser set for Saturday to help Light Up Sikeston
SIKESTON — In 2020, a group of Sikeston residents wanted to bring joy and happiness to the community through offering a drive-thru Christmas light display.
This year, the same committee is hoping to expand the project and make it more enjoyable for everyone. However, with expansion comes additional costs. On June 12, Light Up Sikeston will be hosting their first fundraiser with multiple events planned for “Christmas in July.”
A pork steak dinner will be held June 12 to help raise money for Light Up Sikeston. The dinner will be a pick up/take away option and will include a pork steak, three sides (slaw, beans and mac and cheese) and a dessert. The cost is $15 and pick-up is available at the Sikeston First Assembly gym from 4-7 p.m. The food will be provided by Mini Farm Mafia BBQ Food Truck and Catering in Sikeston.
The dinner requires tickets that must be purchased in advance. Tickets can be purchased at the Sikeston First Assembly office or in the Sikeston BMU lobby.
Numerous businesses, organizations and churches filled spots at the Sikeston First Assembly’s property at 1221 North Ingram, across from the Sikeston Rodeo Grounds. Each assigned spot was decorated for Christmas as a life-sized card to the community.
Displays were lit nightly from the weekend after Thanksgiving to the first of the new year with the same time frame being planned for this season. No fees were charged for display set up or entry into the event.
“We wanted to provide this as an outreach for the community without the financial burden,” said a spokesman for Light Up Sikeston. There was a donation box toward the end of the tour with 100% of the collections going to local charity.
