SIKESTON — Samuel Blackburn, 66, passed away on Oct. 22, 2021, at home in Sikeston with his wife by his side. He was born Dec. 27, 1954. Sam was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and proudly served on the USS Nautilus from 1973-1979 as an Electricians Mate, First Class. He graduated from Parma High School in 1973 as Salutatorian.

He was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and held a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Sam enjoyed gardening and was most proud the of the beautiful and unique roses he would grow each year. He was an avid Cardinals fan and enjoyed woodworking and home improvement projects. His quick wit and loving nature will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Samuel is survived by his wife of 27 years, Janet Gilliland Blackburn, of Sikeston; daughters, ReDonna Turner (Ken), Shelly Roberts (Sophie Roberts), Lynn Cooper (Richie); his grandchildren, Nikki, Tori, Kennedi, Amber, Corey and Kaitlyn; his great-grandchildren, Corbin, Gus, Katherine and Ayden; and one brother, Chris Blackburn. 

Samuel is preceded in death by his father, Tommy Blackburn; mother, Mildred Blackburn; and brother, Carl Blackburn.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 8 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with the service to follow at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, with full military honors. 

Sam will be laid to rest at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Bloomfield, Missouri.


Memorial donations can be made in Samuel's name to Southeast Cancer Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
