Community resource fair will be Wednesday in Sikeston

SIKESTON — A one-day, one-stop community resource fair designed to provide resources and support for area individuals, families and community members will be held in Sikeston on Wednesday.

The Missouri Job Center Fall For Success Community Resource Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Clinton Building, 501 Campanella Drive, in Sikeston.

“We will have resource providers to assist with telephone access, child care, SNAP benefits, Medicaid benefits, crisis counseling, transportation, child support, training opportunities for youth, low-income adults, seniors over the age of 55 as well as employment assistance,” said Lori Caldwell, workforce development supervisor for the Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development.

The event will be a one-stop shop event with all different needs being addressed in order to assist individuals overcome barriers preventing them from obtaining gainful, self-sustaining employment by bridging this gap.

“Everything topic and situational circumstance will be addressed by one of our resource providers,” Caldwell said. “Literally from infancy to the senior years, there is information and resources available for every aspect of your life.”

Caldwell said they are inviting entire families to the event as there is something for everyone including family-friendly activities.

“We have very useful resources and information to assist every age,” Caldwell said. “Many of our resource agencies facilitate programs with the family in mind, promoting healthy and productive families through educational tools and skills.”

A snack will be provided by the Southeast Missouri Food Bank and several food truck vendors will also be present as well. Masks will be available and the Missouri Job Center will also be raffling four Thanksgiving baskets to those individuals with successfully completed registrations.

Caldwell said they are hoping for a great turnout.

“We are doing everything to relay this message and spread the word about the event throughout the community and abroad,” Caldwell said. “A successful community is one that thrives. It is our desire to help bring awareness to the resources available in our community.”
