Tips and reminders for deer hunters ahead of November firearms season

Each year, I run into a handful of hunters that ask me, “What’s the most common violation you encounter during deer season?” While a typical guess is finding hunters pursuing deer without a permit or failing to Telecheck their harvest, the predominant noncompliance issue involves deer hunters failing to notch their permits properly or using invalid permits in the county that they are hunting in. While these are technical violations, I’ve I spend more and more time each season correcting a violation that could be avoided with a quick review of the 2021 Fall Deer & Turkey Hunting regulations. With the November portion of the fall firearms season opening on Saturday, Nov.13, I’ve provided an overview of the permit notching, antlerless permits, and Telecheck requirements.
