SIKESTON — A primary will be needed for the Sikeston City Council election.

Filing closed on Tuesday and three people filed for the open at-large city council position, leading to a primary election to be held on Feb. 8.

In the primary election, John Leible, Larry Hancock and Lori Caldwell will vie for the at-large position. The top two vote getters in the February election will then run against each other in the April 5 election.

The other two council positions will be unopposed in the April election. Tom Robison filed for the open Ward 1 position while current Ward 4 council member Onethia Williams filed to retain her seat.

Seats up for appointment are At-Large Council Member Ryan Merideth, Ward 1 Council Member Brandon Sparks and Ward 4 Council Member Williams. Councilman Ryan Merideth has termed out and is not eligible to run in this election, and Councilman Brandon Sparks has resigned his seat due to a move out of Ward 1.
