Give yourself over to God
Friday, May 5, 2023
I drive back and forth on highway HH a lot. On the north side of the road is a long line of utility poles. At the very top of each pole is a number, such as 69, 70 and 71. I never really gave this much thought, but in thinking it over, this is such a wise thing to do. If a vehicle or a storm damages one of the poles, the utility company just needs to know the pole number and they know precisely where to go.
We are a bit like these utility poles, in that God can find us whenever God needs or desires to do so. Psalm 139:1-2 reads, “O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thought from far away.” God always knows where we are, what we are doing, and what condition we are in. God even knows every thought that goes through our minds. Given that God knows us inside and out, there can be no reason to run from God or turn away from God. No matter what walls we want to hide behind, what hole we want to bury ourselves in, it won’t work, because God knows all.
If you have turned away from God in anger, disappointment or shame, turn those emotions over to God and let God carry that burden. If you feel too unworthy or too ignorant about God to ask for God’s help, there is no sin too large or question too small to ask. God wants to be in a relationship with you because God loves you. Give yourself over to God so that if one of life’s storms injures you, your spirit will be ready to instantly receive God’s presence, wisdom and love.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.”
Jeremiah 1:5
