Share your faith in subtle ways

Friday, May 19, 2023

Recently, I went through the drive thru of a fast-food place for breakfast. I got to the pick-up window, was given my order, and before I drove off the young lady waiting on me said, “Have a blessed day.” What she said filled me with happiness. I was not to have just a good day, but a blessed day. What could be better? And then, a few days later at a restaurant, the server said the same thing, “Have a blessed day.”

Reflecting on these wishes for me, I was struck by how bold these employees were in their faith. They work for a secular companies. They really shouldn’t say anything to a customer that has any hint of religion, but they did. Both stand on their feet all day passing out food. They probably hear complaints about how slow the service is, or about something wrong with an order. They could be surly and curt toward the customers. However, they want other people and me to receive God’s blessing.

What are you like toward the people you interact with? Are you a person everyone avoids because of what you might say? Or, are you a person who attracts others to you because of your positivity? When it comes to God and faith, do you do as Jesus teaches and share the good news of the forgiveness and love found in Christ? Or, do you keep your faith to yourself? If you are a Christian, you have a mandate from Jesus to share your faith. This does not mean you must stand on a street corner and shout out what you believe. The sharing of your faith may be best done in subtle ways, like encouraging someone to do their best, being the person others can go to in order to share what is troubling them, or saying to a person, “Have a blessed day.”

“And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.” Mark 16:15
