Our congratulations go out to former Sikeston Mayor Mike Marshall who was appointed to a federal post by President Obama this week. Marshall will be the new alternate federal co-chair for the Delta Regional Authority. That fancy title means that Marshall will have responsibility for hundreds of programs that benefit the Delta Region, an area along the Mississippi River running roughly from St. Louis to New Orleans...

BENTON - A Chaffee area man is charged with theft of livestock. Dale R. Nedrow, 48, is charged with livestock theft in excess of $3,000 and resisting arrest. NEW MADRID -- Area health departments are banding together to ensure they are able to keep providing their health services despite the sickly economy. With the assistance of a $84,910 Rural Health Network Development Planning Grant, the New Madrid, Scott, Mississippi, Stoddard, Pemiscot and Dunklin county health departments are in the process of forming a 501c3 nonprofit organization, according to Jayne Dees, administrator of the New Madrid County Health Department...

SIKESTON -- Later this week, the first telemetry patients will take advantage of the brand-new 3F wing at Missouri Delta Medical Center. "We are expecting to move patients there on Tuesday or Wednesday," said Karen Lawless, telemetry manager. The floor deals with patients who need to be connected to machines to measure heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate, as well as blood-oxygen level and heart-rhythm monitoring information...

WASHINGTON -- The No. 2 job at the Delta Regional Authority has been filled by former Sikeston Mayor Mike Marshall. BERNIE -- It took extra innings but the visiting Charleston Bluejays out-muscled the Bernie Mules, thanks to a 2-run home run by Danny McKinney in the top of the eighth inning to guide the Bluejays to a 10-8 win. "I was happy that Ethan (Browning) got on in front of me," McKinney said. "I was hoping just to move him over, maybe hit a gap shot to move the runner and I happen to hit it out."...

EAST PRAIRIE -- A walk-off home run by Mikey Russell in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the East Prairie Eagles a 3-2 win on Friday night over the visiting St. Vincent Indians. Russell drilled the second pitch he saw over the fence to break the 2-2 tie which was made possible by a two-run home run from Drew Armbruster in the top of the seventh. It was the only blemish starter Connor Scott had in his seven innings on the mound...
