SIKESTON -- Longtime Sikeston businessman and community leader Ray Clinton died Saturday. He was 88. The founder of R. Clinton Construction Company in Sikeston, Clinton helped develop many of the area's businesses and utilities. CHARLESTON -- A Charleston man was arrested in Michigan last week in connection with a fatal nightclub shooting. Devonte Johnson, 18, was arrested in Kalamazoo, Mich., on Thursday, according to Charleston Department of Public Safety director Robert Hearne. Johnson waived extradition and was returned to Missouri, where he faces charges of first-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Two members of the New Madrid Volunteer Fire Department were the first to arrive on the scene of a blaze at 441 Capital St. in New Madrid at 5:28 p.m. Sunday.
