Dear Dietitian
(Column ~ 12/18/19)
Dear Readers, For many of us, it’s a morning must-have, almost a medical necessity. We just aren’t functional until we’ve had that good-to-the-last-drop cup of coffee. Coffee has hit the news lately. Is it good for you or is it not? Studies are conflicting, which is no surprise. Some reports estimate that Americans spend about $20 a week on coffee and drink an average of 3.6 cups per day. That’s over $1,000 a year and more than 1,300 cups of coffee!...

Letter: Christmas parade, events were success
(Letter to the Editor ~ 12/18/19)
Historic Downtown Sikeston would like to thank all the people involved in the Christmas Parade, “Dashing Through Downtown.” Abbi Lindsey and Courtney Haugh, along with several volunteers, did a fantastic job in organizing the event. It has in a very short time, become one of Historic Downtown’s best events. Thank you also to all the folks involved in the creation of the floats. A lot of hard work and planning went into the construction of the floats. We had several hundred folks brave the cold to enjoy the parade, as well as Santa’s Village in the park. The city Public Works and Parks departments built the village completely from scratch. It’s a tribute to their ingenuity and talent. Each year they add new buildings to the village. If you haven’t seen it, it is worth a trip to Legion Park.

Speakout
(Opinion ~ 12/18/19)
Yes, this is to the guy complaining about the gas prices in Sikeston. You ought to try doing what I do. I go out of town to get my gas. I go to Benton, Charleston, New Madrid, anywhere but Sikeston to get my gas. And it’s a nice little drive to go out of town and I save me about $20 every time I go because the gas in this town, is like you said, a joke. So try it some time, you might like it.
