Sikeston woman sentenced for her role in fatal crash

BENTON, Mo. — A Sikeston woman was sentenced Wednesday to prison and ordered to pay restitution for her involvement in the 2021 traffic crash resulting in the death of a Sikeston man. Karmilia L. Smith, 21, was sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections on a charge of felony leaving the scene of an accident with the accident resulting in the death of 30-year-old Cadarious Butler, according to online court records. ...

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — An East Prairie man will see his name in lights Saturday. Lawson Thresher, 20, will premiere his first short film, “Phantom of the Fields,” Saturday at Cape West Cinema. Thresher wrote and directed the film. “I made a short film as kind of a demo reel to show I could tell a story visually so I can eventually make a feature film,” Thresher said. “I wrote the script about four years ago.
