Gephardt couldn't get voter support

Richard Gephardt for all purposes exited the national political stage this week following his poor showing in the Iowa caucuses on Monday. It was a disappointing and somewhat surprising ending for the longtime Missouri political force. There's some background rumbling that Gephardt might make an excellent vice presidential mate given his Midwestern roots and strong union backing. But for now, Gephardt appears headed to private life.
