MATTHEWS -- George Woodrow Beck, 84, died at 1:15 p.m. Nov. 29, 2007, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Nov. 24, 1923, at Fairview, son of the late Spurlin and Birdie Duke Beck Sr., he was a self-employed farmer and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Matthews and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Sikeston.

On Nov. 25, 1947, at Hernando, Miss., he married Aletha Gwendolyn "Gwen" Coots who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons, Kevin Aldo Beck of Sikeston and Allan Lyn Beck of Wheaton, Ill.; two brothers, Joe Beck of Okeechobee, Fla., and Spurlin Beck Jr. of Sikeston; three sisters, Jewell Harber, Motel Smith and Thelma McDonald of Sikeston; and three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services scheduled for noon Monday at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The Rev. Jamie Jones, pastor of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Matthews, will officiate.

Burial with full military honors will follow at 2 p.m. in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.

Pallbearers will be: Jeffrey Beck, Steve Fair, Nathan Beck, Duke McDonald, Rick Garza and Daniel Adams.
