SIKESTON -- Sikeston's wrestling team improved its dual meet record to 5-3 on Thursday night with a 62-18 win over Dexter.

"We wrestled very aggressive tonight," said Sikeston coach Chris Hodgkiss. "That's the style I like to see us wrestle. We had some matches that could have been close, but our kids kept pushing and pushing and won by major decision. Then we had a couple of other matches that were relatively close that we ended up winning by pin. It was a big dual meet win for us."

In the lighter weights, Sikeston's Ben Powers, Dexter's Mark McClintock and Dexter's Adam Eagle all won by forfeit. Cody Ryan started the meet in the 125 class by pinning Dexter's Drew Pixley in 3:30. Shawn Cooper followed that up with a 16-8 decision over Dexter's Nick Lillard in the 130 division.

"Cody Ryan and Shawn Cooper kind of got the dual meet going," said Hodgkiss. "Both were very aggressive and good on their feet. Cody came away with a pin to start the meet off, then Shawn really battled it out and ended up getting a major decision for us. I think that kind of set the tone for the rest of the guys."

In the 135 class, Kyle Weeks won by a score of 12-2 over Dexter's Jordan Sielert. At 140, Cody Weeks pinned Dexter's Jarrett Griffen in 1:18. Tony Reynolds won by forfeit. In the 152 class, Cullen Looney pinned Dexter's Michael Fisher in 3:38. At 160, Lance Berry pinned Dexter's Ryan Braswell in 1:32. In the 171 class, Scotty Keenan pinned Dexter's Tyler Christian in 3:40.

At 189, Malcolm Williams pinned Dexter's Shawn Jones in 3:16. In the 215 division, Dexter's Ben Robinson pinned Andy Croxford in 3:55. At heavyweight, Joe Johnson pinned Dexter's Josh Robinson in 1:51.

Sikeston's varsity wrestling team will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting New Madrid County Central at 6:30 p.m. Sikeston also won Thursday's junior varsity match, 30-24. Sikeston winners were Logan White, Justin Morton, Matt Knickman, Ryan Dicus and Brandon Hale.

The junior varsity team will compete in the conference meet tomorrow in Jackson.
