SIKESTON - Wallace E. Waters, second lieutenant, 339th Field Artillery Battalion, has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in combat from April 1, 1945, to May 10, 1945, in Italy.

SIKESTON Mrs. A.E. Sullivan entertained with an afternoon party Sunday for her son, Eugene, whose first birth anniversary occurred on that day.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston All-Stars captured the championship position of their own tourney Saturday night when they galloped to a 4-0 decision over the Poplar Bluff Mules. Sikeston's ace hurler and slugger, Wayne Limbaugh was awarded the most valuable player trophy after he pitched a masterful victory for Sikeston striking out 16 of 21 batters that he faced in the bout.

SIKESTON - Watch your speed! Patrol has a new radar units. In the past you may have gotten away with speeding but now there is more chance you will be caught by a trooper. Highway Patrol officers gathered at the Ramada Inn Wednesday night to show off the patrol's latest radar addition, the MPH - S

-80 MCX. "We're getting more people with the Fuzz Buster," said Ben Goodin, supervisor instructor for the Jefferson City training center. The S-80 operates on a faster frequency than the CMN radar it is replacing.

SIKESTON - Construction crews from Burlington Northern Railroad are in Sikeston replacing the old wood railroad crossing on Murray Lane. They are installing a new concrete crossing this week which make travel on Murray Lane smoother.

EAST PRAIRIE - The Annual Sweetcorn Festival included lots of royalty. Rebecca Davis, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Davis of East Prairie, reigned as queen of the Sweet Corn Festival. Lydia Thomure, 7, was chosen Miss Petite Sweet Corn while the titles of Little Mister and Little Miss Sweetcorn was awarded to Austin Smith, 3, and Karrah Reynolds, 4.
