Speakout 2/16

Wednesday, February 16, 2005

This is addressed to the student in the school bus who threw an empty milk carton out of the bus window when it was stopped briefly at the Dialysis Unit on Feb. 4. Who do you think is going to pick up the carton now and dispose of it properly? Is the way you were taught to treat our environment?

I am calling about the Feb. 3 editorial by Mike Jensen about cutting Medicaid expenses. Being a temporary recipient of Medicaid due to my spend-down on Medicare, I had dentures made that were so ill-fitting they had to be thrown away. They were only adjusted twice and I was told I couldn't get new ones (I am only allowed that one particular set which were junk). I also had an optician make glasses for me. They put the lenses in the wrong side and had to be remade three times. Finally, I put them in the drawer because I can't use them. Mike talks about providers causing over-charges. They are the ones who receive the money. A lot of the doctors and dentists deceive the recipient for re-do's, come back, tell your friends, whatever. They are the ones who receive the money - not the recipient. They only receive the services and a lot of the providers are sending the receivers to places to get treatments that are totally unnecessary. So let's look at the providers first. Clean their clock and then the recipients won't be blamed so much for it. I have nothing against my tax dollars helping people get medical care who are not covered by insurance (which most people in this state don't have, and what they do have isn't worth much).

I would like to SpeakOut about Dr. Stone and his staff. He is the most terrific doctor we have ever had; he is the most terrific doctor in town and his nurse, Angie, is one of the sweetest nurses we've had. Toni and Joe and his wife, Michelle, are all good people. Everyone there is so sweet and we just want to SpeakOut about him.

I would like to SpeakOut about a store in town that keeps putting a note on their sign about another store in town. I think it's childish and is a disgrace. They should be in trouble for slander. I don't work at either of these stores, but just having the comment up there makes me not want to shop there. I think it's very immature.

I am a worker at Wal-Mart. The other day when I was checking out a lady, she told me she had worked at the domestic shelter here in Sikeston. She said she had started as a volunteer, told me the names of the people who work there and also told me the names of the clients and the address of the shelter. My question to the directors of the shelter is: isn't this supposed to be kept confidential and not discussed in Wal-Mart.

Did you know that the police officers in a very, very close town to Sikeston feel that they need to finish their lunch before taking care of a call that a concerned citizen made about a child not restrained properly?

I would like to SpeakOut about "Leadership questioned" in the Feb. 4 paper. Are you trying to get a rise out of us Republicans or are you really that ignorant?
