CHAFFEE - James Edward Owens, 80, died Jan. 31, 2005, at the Chaffee Nursing Center.

Born March 14, 1924, in Fort Worth, Texas, son of the late Edgar Layetta and Cora Mae Reason Owens, he retired as a section foreman for the Burlington Northern Railroad Company in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chaffee.

On June 5, 1943, he married Doris Mae Heilmann who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons, James Owens Jr. of Chaffee and Jack Owens of Southaven, Miss.; two brothers, Alvie Lee Owens and Eddie Ray Williams of Escalon, Calif.; three sisters, Cora Mae Griggs and Darlene Largent of Oakdale, Calif., and Joyce Merlene Waite of Sullivan, Wis.; and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

One son and two sisters preceded him in death.

Visitation begins at 4 p.m. Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Eric Hodge will officiate.

Burial will follow in Union Park Cemetery.
