SIKESTON - Herb Walton, local Ford dealer, was elected commander of the Henry Meldrum Post of the American Legion at its meeting Tuesday night. He will succeed C.C. (Eddie) Mathis, first World War II veteran to serve as Legion head.

BENTON - John Underwood, who for the past year has been director of the Scott County welfare office has been transferred to New Madrid County and has been replaced by Mrs. Catherine Gipson.


SIKESTON - In extra innings, Sikeston's Connie Mack team, Potlach Forest, was upset 9-7 by Wichita Falls, Texas, in last night's bout. Sikeston is not eliminated from the Connie Mack Regional however because of the double-

elimination tourney.

BELL CITY - The Bell City varsity cheerleaders attended the 1985 National Cheerleaders Association camp at Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau Aug. 5-9. The camp, the third largest NCA camp in the United States, was attended by 800 cheerleaders from four states. The cheerleaders were accompanied by their sponsor, Lisa Stewart.

SIKESTON - Coach Fred Johnson of the Sikeston Public Schools spent his Saturday, along with many other establishments in Sikeston, in a cooking contest at the Red-Neck Bar-B-Que. The cook off was one of several Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo events.


SIKESTON - Ken Mellons and crew took on the K103 FM radio station Saturday morning in a charity softball game with all proceeds going to the Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Center.
