EAST PRAIRIE - Sgt. James L. Craig of East Prairie was listed in a report of casualties issued Friday by the War Department. According to the list, he was wounded in action while serving in the Mediterranean.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Board of Education Tuesday sold bonds for the new middle school to a syndicate headed by Centerre Bank National Association of St. Louis with an average interest rate of 9.458897 percent. Centerre's bid included a net interest cost of $3,636,946. Sealed bids were opened from five bonding firms with the average interest rates ranging from 9.45 to 9.8 percent.

SIKESTON - A leak from a truck hauling chemical waste resulted in the closing of highways in the vicinity of the 10-4 Truck Stop, located at the intersection of Interstate 55 and highway 80, about noon Sunday. Several law enforcement officials, called to the scene, were taken to Missouri Delta Community Hospital for observation, according to the highway patrol.


CHARLESTON - Proposed revisions in the city's rural fire protection brought a strong objection during Tuesday's City Council session.

SIKESTON - Tireless efforts in promoting Sikeston Little League, Junior Babe Ruth and American Legion Baseball will make Ron Borders the 17th name on the Sports Memorial Area Honors Board.


SIKESTON - Dr. Fred Thornton, a former member of the Scott County R-6 School District Board of Education, will return to complete the unexpired term of former board member Steve Matthews, who accepted a position with the AmeriFirst Bank branch in Cape Girardeau.
