Speakout 11/21

One of my pet peeves is to see the flag being flown after it has become tattered and faded. The American flag should be shown more respect. There are two business places in Sikeston doing this right now. One is on North Main and the other is on South Main. If you are flying the flag, I urge you to check on it periodically and replace it when necessary. It would look a lot nicer in the community and the flag would get the respect it deserves.

Good news for the city of New Madrid. News flash out of Farmington. A new city administration raised the electric rate by 40 percent. The mayor was recalled by vote. The city council was recalled by vote, the administrator was run out of town. The rate was lowered and all were happy except for a few. The New Madrid Council's attitude is and has been expressed in council meetings that "if you don't like what we do, move out." Next April is looking much better.

What's the problem? I was just calling to find out what I needed to do to get into SpeakOut. I have called several times with several concerns and have never once seen my ad published in your paper. I have abided by all the rules, no profanity, speak loud, no background noise. And still have not seen my voiced concerns in SpeakOut. How do I get into the paper? What's the problem?

This message is to the individual or individuals who stole my boxes of Avon off my front porch. I truly hope you're happy with yourself. There were gifts in that order for some people who had ordered for loved ones. There were items in there that people had ordered to donate to Matthews Elementary for their US Troop care packages. And there were items that good, honest, paying customers had purchased. I believe in what goes around, comes around. I have my suspicions as to who you are. I will prosecute if you're caught. Avon will probably prosecute as well. And to my fellow Avon representatives, beware. Instead of it's better to give than receive, some people just believe it's better to thieve.

I thought the Mentos science experiment in Cape was great. My daughter's school in Sikeston attended and she really enjoyed it. Anything you can do to keep children interested in science is worthwhile. As for the person complaining about it, that's truly silly and petty. Soda is not food. It's not like they were flinging t-bone steaks into the bonfire or something. Personally, I'd rather have my daughter blow up a soda in my backyard than drink it. We don't keep soda at my house to drink on a regular basis, even diet sodas can ruin tooth enamel with their high acid content. Frankly if someone is in such dire financial straights that they can't afford soda, then soda should be the least of their worries.

Sikeston Cab Company would get more calls if they would answer their phone when it rings instead of letting it ring 100 times or better before they answer it. And if they had more cabs running so you didn't have to wait 2 or 3 hours before you get your ride. It's the most pathetic friggin' cab company in the world. They need more dispatchers, more drivers and more cabs.
