Brakes fail on bus, two injured

SIKESTON -- A school bus containing only the driver crashed into another vehicle Friday afternoon after the bus experienced brake failure.

According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety, at 4:39 p.m. Norma Moore of New Madrid was operating a Sikeston R-6 school bus and traveling east on Helen Street when she tried to stop at a stop sign and the brakes went out. The bus then traveled through the stop sign and struck the vehicle driven by Sikeston resident Patsy Harris, who was traveling south on Ingram Road.

Harris was air evacuated for treatment, and Moore was taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. At press time, the extent of their injuries was unknown.
