SIKESTON - Lena Fitzgerald Carter, 101, died Aug. 7, 2005, at her home in Sikeston.

Born April 25, 1904, in Horn Lake, Miss., to the late James and Cora Holloway Fitzgerald, she moved to Sikeston in 1946, where she joined Traveler's Baptist Church for many years. In 1961 she became a member of St. John's Baptist Church in Sikeston where she served in the choir and was a member of the Mother's Board.

In 1930 in Caruthersville, she married Clarence Carter, who preceded her in death.

Also she was preceded in death by one sister, two sons and one daughter.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Everett and Delois Carter of Mitchellville, Md.; five daughters, Dorothy Herring of Sikeston, Pearlean Alexander and Katherine Carter of Chicago, Josephine Thomas of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mowani Carter of Miramar, Fla.; 33 grandchildren including Carolyn Lubbock, Texas, whom she raised, 35 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. John's Baptist Church in Sikeston until time for services at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Flem Bronner will officiate.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home.
