Letter to the Editor

Your view: Unfair article

Friday, April 28, 2006

I'm writing in regard to the Business Scene, Sunday, Easter April 16, article. Prime time. Everyone was home from out of town to read it. The businesses in Sikeston and surrounding area, who actually run 365 days a year businesses, should have felt a hit. We all do upscale clothing work hard everyday to satisfy our customers. They put their trust in us the minute they walk through our doors. Our services include putting together a splendid wardrobe, making special orders, accessorizing and take care of alterations. Not to mention, ten markets a year buying, hopefully the perfect thing for our area to changing seasons six times on the floor.

I have been in the business many, many years, dealing with UP scale clothing (I believe the term was). And I do consider myself and my staff advisors. We have put 50-plus years in the business and I assure you we do know how to take care of our customers. We are professional fashion consultants and we have earned the title from taking care of our customers, six days a week, year in and year out to the fullest.

We either pay rent on our building or we're purchasing them, either way costly. We pay sales tax and license to work in this business. So see, we do contribute to the community. Your promoting Downtown Sikeston and its valued businesses continually and then run Easter Sunday paper (biggest distribution of paper day) on a four times a year business.

I advertise, like all the other businesses do, throughout an entire year, year after year. I'm not being picky. Competition is good, retail is fair game, room for all. In fact, it speaks well for what we do, we want everyone to survive.

This letter is not complaining, because I have been lucky. We love what we do, like you do. We're also good at it. We've loved your paper, been supportive always. The article was unfair to all of us in retail, especially the timing. It was a shot!

This letter is from two style advisors with 50-plus years experience who work very hard to combine classic good looks and convenience for their customers whom they are very much appreciated.
