SIKESTON -The Sikeston Bulldogs came to life Friday night in defeating the Poplar Bluff Mules 68-47 in a game played at the Sikeston gymnasium.

BENTON - Alternate non-surplus crops which may be grown on acreage diverted for payment from 1966 production of wheat or feed grains, or cotton, have been named by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.


CHARLESTON - The Mississippi County Fair will be held Sept. 19, 1966. Alfred Wall Amusement Company shows will be featured in the midway throughout the fair week and a country music show from "The Grand Ole Opry" has been engaged.

SIKESTON - Earl L. Butz, former U.S. secretary of agriculture, will be guest speaker at this year's Man of the Year Banquet, and NFL football player James Wilder, formerly of Sikeston, will be the guest of honor. Plans for the banquet, which is scheduled for April 3 at the Sikeston Armory, were announced during a press conference Tuesday.


CHARLESTON - The nutrition center, a liquor ordinance and the possibility of keeping rail lines open were among topics discussed Tuesday evening by the City Council.

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Sikeston resident, Lynn M. Dempster, vice president of the Board of Regents of Southeast Missouri State University, has submitted her resignation to the office of Gov. Mel Carnahan. The resignation, due to health reasons, is effective immediately.


EAST PRAIRIE - Approximately 300 civic and community leaders attended the Enterprise Community Empowerment Conference including 27 from Missouri, representing the state and East Prairie. East Prairie is one of 30 rural enterprise communities across the country designated by the Clinton Administration in December 1994 awarded a $2.9 million grant.
