SIKESTON - One of the prettiest social events was held at the S.C. Club on Jan. 26. when Mrs. H.A. Bach entertained with a formal dance in honor of her son, Alfred. It was his 16th birthday.

SIKESTON - Rural real estate appraisal, a credit course, will be organized in Sikeston at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Sikeston Production Credit Association meeting room, Tom B. Stroup, county extension director for Scott County in Benton, announced today. Anyone interested can be present for an explanation.


BENTON - Scott County's budget for 1986 has been adopted at $421,743.12. The budget represents an increase of $52,071.40 over 1965's outlay.

SIKESTON - Tim Kellick, a sophomore at Sikeston High School, was recently awarded second place honors on the state level during a national broadcast script writing competition. Kellick received the honors at the competition in Kansas City after receiving first place honors on the local and district level.


NEW MADRID - Voters in New Madrid County R-1 School District will be asked Feb. 4 to decide whether to form a new school district in the southern part of the county.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Missouri geologists have discovered large faults about 20 miles north of the notorious New Madrid Fault, but they say it's too soon to tell whether they raise the region's earthquake threat. The new faults, near Cape Girardeau in southeast Missouri, are called the English Hill Faults, said a copyright story in today's edition of the St. Louis Post Dispatch.


SIKESTON - There are local residents who don't even own a coat. The Sikeston Rescue Mission would like to help. Through February the thrift store is conducting a clearance sale on coats and sweaters - all for $1.
