SIKESTON - Workers from the Rose City Rides and area organizations busily prepared during the weekend for the 43rd Annual Cotton Carnival. By early afternoon Sunday, most of the amusement rides, along with many concession stands and game booths were already erected and ready to be manned. The carnival will continue throughout the week and end Saturday night. The Morley Rotarians spent much of the day preparing their ring toss duck stand which is an annual fundraiser for the club. A live duck is awarded to the person who tosses a ring around its neck.
MINER - Balloons floated away from a trailer park here Friday, a melancholy moment for U.S. soldiers of three wars listed as missing in action. Yet, the red balloons also may be a symbol of hope, soaring with the new developments on U.S. servicemen in Vietnam.
