DEXTER - The dream, a new hospital, has come true for residents of Dexter as it was announced today that pledges in the campaign have topped the $500,000 mark. Combined with federal Hill-Burton funds, this will provide for building and equipping a new 50-bed general hospital to serve an estimated 25,000 people in the Stoddard County area.

SIKESTON - Financial problems in the insurance industry, coupled with a rash of lawsuits, pushed premiums for liability coverage almost beyond the grasp of cities and counties across Missouri and other states. City officials in Sikeston were dumbfounded when the city's annual premium for general liability insurance jumped from $8,000 in 1984 to $l75,000 - a more than 2000 percent increase.

NEW MADRID - Work may begin as early as next week on proposed improvements to the city's water system. Mayor Larry Rost reported during Monday evening's City Council meeting that the pipe is purchased to supply water from the city's water plant to the New Madrid Elementary School on Highway 61. The need for the improvement was pointed out earlier by engineers, who noted the water pressure to the building was insufficient for proper fire protection.


SIKESTON - Tiger Cub Pack 43 spent Monday night learning firsthand how to make a pizza, with a little help from Connie Krietemeyer, assistant manager at Domino's Pizza. The youths were able to sample their work as they created their masterpiece.


SIKESTON - With the official Christmas shopping season starting the day after Thanksgiving, Public Safety will initiate the Second Annual Community Oriented Policing Patrol.
