SIKESTON -- The Sikeston golf team hosted New Madrid County Central in the season opener at the Country Club.

After being rained and frozen out Monday today's weather seamed nicer. The team showed some promise today when they beat NMCC 192 to 202. Medalist for the dawgs was freshman Dakota Trevino with a six over par 41. Teammate Bill Green shot 44.

Also scoring for the team was De Bizzell and Trey Oetting. A number of our players struggled with the elements and know they have a lot of room for improvement.

"I felt they made a good showing," said Sikeston coach Rick Oetting. "We travel to the Notre Dame Invitational at Bent Creek Monday noon. We will see some great competition with Cape and Bluff. Our goal is to finish high amongst the 3A schools. It will be a great opportunity to see how the district teams stack up early in the season."

The Sikeston junior varsity won 227 to 240.

The scores of Jared Kruger, Joseph Bowman, Mark Fraser and Dustin Hampton combined for the victory. NMCC varsity shooters were Thorn Robins 48 followed by Jerod Stobaugh, Blake Martindale and Brent Martindale.
