Bulldogs ready for Red, Black scrimmage
SIKESTON -- Fans of the Sikeston High School football team will have their first opportunity to see the Bulldogs in action Friday night at the annual Red and Black Scrimmage.
The scrimmage, which is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at the Sikeston Public Schools Stadium, will feature performances from Sikeston's varsity and freshmen teams.
"We're going to run 15 offensive plays and 15 defensive plays with the varsity before the freshmen will have a chance to take the field," Sikeston varsity head coach Kent Gibbs said.
The freshmen squad is expected to run 30 plays (15 offense, 15 defense). Afterward, the Bulldogs' varsity team will return to the field to execute more plays on offense and defense.
Sikeston's varsity squad will be wearing new head gear during the 2007 season. Replacing the letter "S" on the side of the Sikeston helmet is the head of a growling Bulldog.
Admission to the Red and Black Scrimmage can be one of the following three donated items: a bar of soap, a bottle of Gatorade or a non-perishable canned good.
