SIKESTON - J.F. Fox Sr., former owner of the Homestead Hotel, has announced that he has purchased the hotel from Billy Walker.

SIKESTON - A Bootheel citizens' rehabilitation council whose purpose is to draft a master plan for the extension and expansion of services for the handicapped was formed at a meeting Monday at the El Capri Restaurant.

CHARLESTON - Travelers approaching from east to west aren't kept in the dark about Charleston being the home of Gov. Warren E. Hearnes. Large signs bearing his picture in color have been erected on Highway 60 east and Interstate 57 west at the city's outskirts.

SIKESTON - Vice Mayor Robert Stearnes signed a proclamation this week declaring Wednesday at Girl Scout Leader's Day in Sikeston. The honor was part of Girl Scout Volunteer Appreciation Week, being celebrated nationwide.


SIKESTON - Parents organizing the second after-prom party met at the Sikeston Department of Public Safety headquarters on Tuesday afternoon to discuss plans for the upcoming event to be conducted at the Jaycee rodeo barn.

BLOOMFIELD - Sixty-eight memorial markers are being placed to honor and recognize the Stoddard County Civil War dead who lie in unmarked graves on battlegrounds or at Union prison sites. Installing the markers are members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and other interested parties at the Bloomfield Cemetery.


NEW MADRID - The New Madrid County Central Quiz Bowl won the District Academic Competition for the second consecutive year when nine schools competed April 19 in Malden for the 3A District 1 championship. Matt Hampton and Bill Fix, two NMCC players, were named to the All-District Team.
