Tena Lape

NEW HAMBURG - Christine "Tena" Lape, 93, died July 14, 2007, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.

Born Jan. 15, 1914, in Charleston, to the late Henry and Rosella Layton Scheffer, she retired from Thorngate Ltd. in Chaffee where she was employed as a presser. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and St. Ann Sodality in New Hamburg.

On Sept. 10, 1935, she married Ode David Lape Sr. who preceded her in death on March 25, 1967.

Seven brothers, four sisters and one grandchild also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: four sons, Dennis Lape of Littleton, Colo., Ode "David" Lape Jr. of Chaffee, Muriel Lape of Sikeston and Michael "Mickey" Lape of St. Louis; two daughters, Joy Chapman of Cape Girardeau and Betty Tucker of Festus; two sisters, Alline Scherer of Cape Girardeau and Mildred Abernathy of Benton; and 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled at 4 p.m. today, with parish prayers at 6:30 p.m., at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Normand Varone will officiate.

Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Kevin Lape, Ode Lape III, Michael Lape II, Clarance Tucker, Brandon Tucker and Mitchell Tucker.

The Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel of Chaffee is in charge of arrangements.
