Speakout 10/1

I just called the American Legion and they are charging $20 this year for arm bands and I think that is ridiculous. Last year it was $15 and that was too high too. The only thing I can figure is that they are trying to take care of that building that burnt. I have two kids and there's no way that I am paying that much. They are going to be upset but that is way too much.

For starters, the VFW not the American Legion recently suffered a fire. The wristband price reflects higher costs that are evident everywhere these days.

I read the SpeakOuts about Harrison Street. I was raised on Harrison Street when there were only a few houses and the roads were gravel. The town was called Miner Switch. I go back to visit from time to time. It doesn't look the same. The neighbors aren't neighbors anymore. When a person starts meddling in their neighbors business and causing them problems, they need to clean up their own home first. In the Bible it says, "Judge not lest ye be judged." I've witnessed people riding lawn mowers up and down the roads, people walking across the streets and their fat little dogs not on a leash. You have more serious problems on that street that hurts more people than a pit bull that I've never seen on the road or no place else but in a yard. I guess that's where it lives. The rocks are on every street. There are drugs in every neighborhood, maybe in your own home. I'm from there and very proud to say we had loving and caring neighbors and some are still there. If you are having problems in your own home, don't try to make other people suffer your problems. If you don't like where you live, move. Your house wasn't there years ago. Are you having marital problems? Are you jealous? Do you have children? Do you have pets? Do you have a hobby? Well, maybe you need to get into church and pray for your fellow neighbor. This world is getting so crazy that people are doing crazy things. Prayer and loving and caring neighbors will make everybody's life more relaxed. I will pray for my small hometown and God will bless you and the ones you are angry with. God says love your neighbor as yourself. Do you do this? God bless Harrison Street.

I'm interested in a fiddle teacher for my little girl. If there's anyone out there who teaches fiddle lessons, please give me a call at 472-0326 or 380-8084.

I would like to respond to an article in SpeakOut entitled Election Advisory. I would like to say to the person who put this in here about President Bush, I highly agree with them. I am 49 years old and have been voting Democrat ever since I was 18. Two members of my family have joined the Republicans. I'm saying that Bush is a sorry, low-down person that should never have been elected and by the time he gets out, it's going to be a blood bath. I wouldn't want to stand in front of God Almighty with all that blood on my hands. Thank God I'm a Democrat and I'm also proud to be an American. God bless the USA. I will challenge anyone that says different.

Just a few lines to clarify what happened. At the time of the drug bust at the trailer, the girl and boy had separated and she and her two children were residing at her parent's home. If they had been living in the trailer, her children would have been taken away like everyone else. The boy in question was arrested, spent some time in jail, paid a large fine off in payments and later received probation. Since that time they have both turned their life around. They were married, had another child, both have good jobs and are trying to put this behind them and get on with their lives. As far as the family being rich, the mother and father have worked their entire life to attain what they have. The keyword here is "worked." I have a little advice here for the person who wrote Land of the rich. First, please get your facts straight before you put stories in the newspaper and second, get a job.
