Above: A large crowd attended Sikeston's Memorial Day Ceremony held Monday morning. Right: Retired Major General James S. Livingston was the guest speaker for Memorial Day Services at Sikeston's Veterans Park Monday. In his remarks, Livingston touched on the origins of the day and added: "Since our nation's beginning, a great many Americans have given their lives for our country. Today, as we place flowers on their graves and praise their deeds, we realize that we cannot discharge our solemn obligation to our fallen comrades with mere words of homage. They did not die for wreaths and words of praise. They died for the right of Americans to enjoy freedom. They died for future generations. They died for us."
