Speakout 10/3

Tuesday, October 3, 2006

I'd like to speak out about a local pizza parlor. I think they need to wear gloves when they are making pizzas. I think it is a health hazard if they do not wear gloves and I think it needs to be reported to the health department. You never know who has germs on their hands when they are making someone's pizzas. I think everybody should know who goes to this place.

I'd like to compliment the people at WalGreens. I've never had a bad experience at that store. All of the clerks are always very polite, make you feel like they are glad to have your business. It's always a pleasure to go in. Very refreshing to have them.

I would like to reply to Paying twice in Kelly. Did the Kelly School student's parents know that by taking their kids out of the Sikeston Vo-Tech program and sending them to Cape Central Vo-Tech, their school district is paying $700 more a student? According to the article there are 30 students going to Cape Central. You do the math. Was it a wise decision?

We were down in Kewanee yesterday afternoon. We've got a nephew that owns a farm a mile and a half west of Kewanee on a blacktop. We'd never been there and we stopped to try and find out where it was. We stopped at the MFA Station where you turn to go into Kewanee. Nobody knew him. We stopped at MoDOT and nobody knew him there. We stopped at another man's house and he said that we were just a mile and a half from his house. Back in my day, when you lived out in the country, shoot, we could tell you where the lived and how many kids they had.

I went to Portageville and watched the parade last night and it was just awesome and the drum line was just outstanding. I look forward to seeing it again next year. Pemiscot County was just excellent. The band was awesome. What a nice turn out.

Well, ole Carter told us when he was in that we would be completely out of oil by 1988. We still got oil. You know ole Carter kept that Bible around but I think he has trouble telling the truth.

I'd like to say thank you to Sikeston and MoDOT for repaving Malone Avenue. Being a motorcyclist, there were several holes or bumps that caused me to almost wreck or steer into the other lane. Thanks again.

On Friday, Sept. 22, the article on minimum wage on the front page of the paper, this Miss Brooks talking about living on minimum wage, $5.15 an hour, drawing Social Security disability. How can that be? How can she draw disability and still work and draw minimum wage? That don't sound right to me. If you are on disability, you're on disability. If you're working, you're working.
