Speakout 12/10

Sunday, December 10, 2006

To the individual who wanted information about Camille Stone, they can call me, Paul Hill, at 748-5906.

Mike Jensen recently wrote a column that I agreed with for the most part. However, I disagreed with the sentence where he wrote about himself, "I am not black." Just as some say Bill Clinton was America's first black President. I believe Mike Jensen is the Standard-Democrat's first black publisher.

To the person who wrote into the SpeakOut column about the Altrusa Operation Christmas Child, I have a few facts for you. Hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies have been delivered to the needy here in Sikeston. Other school supplies have been delivered to every school here in Sikeston. Just this past weekend, Oh Christmas Tree event sponsored by Altrusa, made thousands of dollars and donates all proceeds to Sikeston community projects. And remember, Christmas is about giving, not receiving. I'll be waiting for your apology in SpeakOut.

I thought that SpeakOut was supposed to be about maybe a problem or some concern you had about your community. But lately it's got to be ridiculous. And I just read something in here, Say a little prayer for me. Why would something like that be published in SpeakOut? That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read in SpeakOut.

Miss Kathy Moore and Miss Sandy and your husband, I would like to commend you all for that delicious Thanksgiving dinner and turkey soup. All of us at the Eagles appreciated it.

I would like to know why my husband is over $30,000 behind in child support and I can't seem to get anything? Right now he is living in Louisiana. Please bill Louisiana.

What kind of people, or what kind of person, could leave an animal of any kind, especially a dog, out in 20 degree weather? It's colder than a deep freeze, without a house stuffed full of straw that an animal can nestle down into to stay warm. No animal should be left out in such weather. Sikeston needs new animal ordinances against tethering animals and against leaving animals out to extreme cold and heat, without water that isn't frozen. Sikeston police need to make random checks on any animal visible in the city of Sikeston on a fairly regular basis. How would you like to be out last night with just a jacket and a bare box? How long do you think you'd last?
