POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Dallas Tew was too much on the mound and Dustin LeGrand provided the punch at the plate Tuesday in an 8-3 win by the Kelly Hawks.

Tew struck out 11, walked none and helped himself at the plate with two hits, an RBI and a pair of runs.

Leading 4-3 in the fifth, LeGrand provided a two-run home run and drove in five runs in all on two hits and a sacrifice fly. Levi Felter scored three times by reaching on a hit, a walk and an error. Taylor James and Bryce Faulkner each had a hit for Kelly (1-3).

Four of Poplar Bluff's five hits came from the last four hitters in the lineup and the Mules (1-4) set a season-high for strike outs.

Todd Bullington had two hits and drove in a run in the second inning followed by Donnie Magruder's RBI single that cut Kelly's lead to 4-2.

Adam Ivie singled through the left side to start the third and later scored on a wild play after Tew tagged out Brennen Moore for the second out. Chris Marcum, who reached on a throwing error, was caught in a rundown between second and third but beat the throw to the bag allowing Ivie to score.

Marcum was later left stranded at third while a pinch runner was left on second in the fourth after Cameron Pickard's two-out single.

While Tew was able to get ahead in the count and make the Mules chase, Kelly's hitters pounced on two-strike pitches to score the first four runs of the game.

Felter opened the game by drawing a walk on a 3-2 pitch. After a passed ball and sacrifice fly moved him to third, Felter scored on Tew's single. LeGrand walked on another full count before Faulkner's RBI double gave Kelly a 2-0 lead.

Felter started a two-out rally in the second with a single up the middle on a 2-2 pitch. James then singled before Tew loaded the bases by reaching on an error. LeGrand made it 4-0 Kelly with a two-run single to short center field. Tew started the fifth inning by fighting off a pair of two-strike pitches before hitting a single to right field. Two pitches later, LeGrand blasted a home run to left to give the Hawks a 6-3 lead.

Ryan Essner and Felter started the sixth by reaching on errors and later scored on LeGrand's sacrifice fly and a passed ball with two outs.

After the home run by LeGrand, Tew gave up just a two-out single in the sixth. He retired 13 of the final 15 hitters, striking out seven.

DELTA -- Portageville's DeAnna Deere struck out 15 and allowed only three hits to lead Portageville to a 2-0 victory. Lauren Kellams scored both runs for Portageville.

The first run came in the first inning after a Kellams bunt and a defensive error on a throw to first base that allowed Kellams to speed around the bags for a run.

Morgan Lechenette drove in Kellams' second run in the fourth inning to end all scoring for the day. Deere and Lechenette each had a single for the day, while Kellye Penn had the only double of the game.

Portageville's defense, which has had only one run scored on it in the first seven games of the season, had outstanding plays by Erica Ivie and Penn to assist in today's victory.

Delta's Kendra Burnett struck out six and allowed only four Portageville hits in the loss. Courtney Burton, Amanda Seabaugh and Kaci Menz all had a single in the game.

This win brought Portageville to a 7-0 record.

Portageville will travel to Bernie for a 4 p.m. contest on Friday.
