SIKESTON - Airport notes: George Martin has purchased a new Cessna and Eli Ethridge an Ercoupe.

SIKESTON - The mercury plunged to a chilly 44 degrees last night for the lowest temperature reading in the Sikeston area on that date since 1903, according to weather service records.

SIKESTON - Construction workers continued their jobs today at the Holiday Inn in Sikeston, Highway 61 South. Workers are recapping the canopy leading to the front entrance. Work should be completed this week, hotel officials said.


DEXTER - The 59th Annual Stoddard County Fair officially gets under way Tuesday at the county fairgrounds on Highway 114 East. Fair activities actually began this morning when entries in the home economics, 4-H, open class and Future Farmers of America contests were accepted and judged.

SIKESTON - Dorene Johnson, executive director of the Sikeston Bootheel Food Bank, is beginning to wonder how she's going to feed all the people that count on her next month. Her food pantry is one of many facing a serious decline in donations this year. The Bootheel Food Bank, which provides food for approximately 7,000 people a month, now has 75 percent less government food that it had a couple of years ago.


SIKESTON - Monday, two judges from the Missouri Community Betterment competition will be in town for a personal inspection of programs and events touted by the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce.


EAST PRAIRIE - New Madrid County Central proved to be the biggest Eagles in the area on Friday when they traveled to East Prairie. With here defense running on all cylinders, and the offense looking sharp, New Madrid ripped through all four quarters, winning 34-0.
