SIKESTON - Plans to raise $100,000 to construct a new building for the Methodist Church will be completed at a meeting Nov. 21.

40 years ago

SIKESTON - A former Sikeston policeman has returned to work as a radio operator. City Manager Raymert Miller announced that Leon R. Culp has been hired. Culp was last a member of the department about three years ago.

20 years ago

SIKESTON - Cowan Construction Company Incorporated dug trenches and laid the concrete foundation for Jus' Burgers, an independent limited menu restaurant, at Tanner and Main streets. Jus' Burgers is scheduled for completion by mid-December. The restaurant will have no inside dining but will feature two drive-through windows.


NEW MADRID - It's almost Christmas and time for the New Madrid Merchants Association Annual Holiday Open House, this year set for Nov. 23. In an effort to surpass previous years, local merchants are adding more lavish decorations and more innovative merchandise displays.

SIKESTON - Helen's Florist, located south of Sikeston on Highway 61, was the scene of a devastating fire reported Tuesday afternoon. Local firefighters, including the Sikeston Public Safety's Fire Division reported to the scene. The structure was heavily damaged by the blaze. Helen's Florist has been in business for more than 25 years.


SIKESTON - A group of guys known for their toughness are showing a group of second-grade students at Southeast Elementary a softer side. Members of the Sikeston Senior varsity football team are using their independent study hours to help Stephanie Garner's class with reading, math and other learning skills. They are called Reading Buddies, but they also help with other skills.
