Speakout 11/12

Sunday, November 12, 2006

To the person on Medicaid who said the poor couldn't get flu shots. That's wrong. All you have to do is get off your lazy backside, make some money and take the cash to the doctor. You then tell him you want a flu shot, he'll give you the flu shot and then you pay him. That way I don't have to pay for my flu shot and your flu shot.

Mike, your editorial on November 1st was very appropriate and very touching. I don't always agree with what you say, but today you hit the nail right on the head.

It is a shame that babies in Scott County and the Missouri Bootheel die from SIDS and unintentional injuries with organizations like Healthy Start who have been here for over 10 years. Indifference it seems is much more important. The loss of one baby, regardless of race, is the loss of a baby. And that effects everybody. Healthy Start is not just for African American babies, it's for all babies. While we continue to be ignorant and biased, babies continue to die. Healthy Start is there to help us all. We can't do it all by ourselves. Wake up and be a real human being.

I want to speak out about how the unemployment levels are lowered and how everybody is doing such a great job. If anyone would actually check into the rules and regulations of the unemployment benefits, it has become increasingly harder to get it. I know of instances to where the employers never even showed up or made a phone call and the individuals were still denied their unemployment just because the employer put in an initial denial on their claim. If it wasn't so hard to get it then everyone would see the unemployment rate has actually increased, not decreased. There is more poverty now because of all the regulations and new changes and the laws they've come across for all the "rich people." It's ridiculous. If someone is going to print anything in the newspaper I believe they ought to print the truth.

My name is Cindy Frazier. Me and my best friend Doris, we have a bird sanctuary called Friends of a Feather. We rescue and adopt all kinds of birds. Our phone numbers are 649-2534 or 233-2335 or 471-0737. We take in and all kinds of exotic birds. We do have some for sale, but the ones we take in and adopt we do not sale.

Listen up parents and don't be fooled. Chartwells caters food to our elementary children. Okay, fine, but they also encouraged children to color and enter a contest. A judge goes out to the schools and chooses a picture, one per grade. Chartwells sent a letter saying my child won and would receive their prize soon. Two to three weeks later my child brought home the picture with the ribbon attached. I asked what her prize it was, and she stated that was all she received. Please tell me why Chartwells would send a letter stating a prize, not a ribbon? Why go through all the trouble of sending a letter for just a ribbon? They get the children all excited for something and leave the parents disappointed for no prize. We are very grateful for the recognition and the ribbon, but are very displeased with Chartwells misleading the children as they have.

I voted no on all new taxes. Learn to get by on what you've got. That's what I've got to do, that's what I expect you to do. I voted no to all new taxes.
