60 years ago

SIKESTON - Mrs. Marvin Carroll has been recently appointed superintendent of the Sikeston General Hospital by the city hospital board, composed of alderman Ed Smith, John Powell and Tom Rafferty.

40 years ago

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Optimist Club, in an organizational meeting at 7 a.m. today at the Rustic Rock Inn, chose new officers and set Jan. 14 as the temporary date for charter night.


SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Herman Smith, who live at the old John Russell farm three miles west of Sikeston, purchased the 13.4 acre tract formerly known as the Sikeston Drive-In.

Nov. 12, 1986

CHARLESTON - As the Mississippi County Courthouse clock chimed 11 times on the 11th day of the 11th hour, citizens braved the cold as they gathered to hear State Rep. Betty Hearnes honor war veterans for their service and their families. A parade featuring the Charleston and East Prairie high school bands, local veterans and others preceded the ceremony at the memorial. Following Mrs. Hearnes' speech, a wreath was placed at the base of the monument.

SIKESTON - Sikeston resident Frank Ferrell was the recipient of a plaque and a pat on the back for his work on the Veterans Park, including the F4 jet project. Ferrell's contributions include the design and construction of the jet's support structure. The plaque presentation took place at the Veterans Day ceremony held Monday at the Sikeston Senior High Field House.


SIKESTON - Beginning this year Middle School student who go to school an entire quarter without being referred to the office will be recognized. The perfect discipline rewards consist of getting out of class during seventh hour and spending that time watching TV, playing games or just talking with friends.
