Isobel Gerdes
CHARLESTON - Isobel Gerdes, D.O., 92, died at 1:56 p.m. Oct. 11, 2006, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
She was born Feb. 1, 1914 in Lawrence, Mass. to the late Louis M. and Isabell Hinchcliff Eidam. Following her graduation from the College of Osteopathy in Kirksville she and her husband, John J. Gerdes D.O., first opened a joint practice in Fredericktown, then moved to Charleston in 1937 where they practiced together until their retirement in 1973. She was a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Missouri Osteopathic Association, Order of Eastern Star and the Charleston Athena Club. She attended the First Christian Church in Charleston.
On April 7, 1934 she married John Judson Gerdes D.O. who preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1977.
One brother, Louis C. Eidam, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, John Martin Gerdes D.O. and Mary Lois Gerdes of Jefferson City; one daughter and son-in-law, Anne Louise and Frank Boyce of Nashville, TN; and two stepgrandchildren, Ann and Susan Slanker both of St. Louis.
A family graveside memorial service will be conducted Nov. 11 at the Elmwood Cemetery in Lawrence.
McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
