Morning accident

Two people were injured, one seriously, in an accident this morning which caused the closure of a section of Highway 61 for about 45 minutes. The Sikeston Department of Public Safety, South Scott County Ambulance District and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the crash shortly after 7 a.m. on Highway 61, just south of Sikeston. Two vehicles collided head-on, ejecting the driver of one vehicle and trapping the driver of the other. According to Lt. Ken Dicus of DPS, it took approximately 10 minutes to extricate the driver, who sustained serious injuries and was transported by Air Evac to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. The ejected driver was transported by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
