SIKESTON -- Winifred King Sidwell, 91, died at 10:21 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008, at her home.

Born Feb. 24, 1917, in Hartford, Conn., to the late Alfred James and Eliza Elizabeth King Easterby, she had worked as a court stenograph reporter for various courts in Southeast Missouri. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had served overseas as a volunteer with the Red Cross during World War II.

On Aug. 6, 1944, at New Guinea, she married William Mitchell Sidwell and he preceded her in death.

Two brothers, Charles Easterby and William Easterby; and two sisters, Emma McBirney and Lillian White also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Maj. Gen. King E. and Cindy Sidwell of Sikeston; one daughter, Judith Lee Darnell of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandsons and their wives, Brian and Traci Darnell of Buffalo, Wyo., Reid and Veronica Darnell of Albuquerque, William Mitchell Sidwell II of Ballwin and Trent Easterby Sidwell of Sikeston; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Brian Darnell, Reid Darnell, Mitchell Sidwell,Trent Sidwell, Steve Matthews and Chuck Meyer.
