Schools prepare to start new year

SIKESTON -- The arrival of this week's Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo also means the new school year is just around the corner for local students.

Classes resume for students in the Sikeston R-6 School District Aug. 11. Open houses in the district are scheduled at various times at each building.

The first day of school for the Scott County R-4 (Kelly) District in Benton will be Aug. 13. An open house where students preK-12 can bring their book bags and school supplies will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 11.
