Roundup: Sikeston soccer, golf both post wins

FREDERICKTOWN -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs remain undefeated after blanking the Fredericktown Lady Blackcats 2-0 on Tuesday evening.

Keyonna Blissett scored both of the Lady Bulldogs' goals in the second half with assists from both Sydney Davied and Emily Eaves.

Goalie Asia Liggins recorded her second shutout of the year.

Sikeston (4-0) will travel to Cape Girardeau on Thursday to take on rival Notre Dame to put their undefeated season on the line.

Junior Varsity

Sikeston 3, Fredericktown 2

The Sikeston junior varsity squad followed in the same footsteps with a 3-2 win over the Lady Blackcats on Tuesday evening.

Madison Chaney recorded two goals for Sikeston while Monica Carter added the other.

GOLF

Sikeston 165, NMCC 174

NEW MADRID -- The Sikeston golf team defeated the New Madrid County Central Eagles on 165-174 at the New Madrid Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

"It was a real windy day and both teams had to fight the wind," said Sikeston coach Andy McGill. "It was the first time for a lot of our guys to play at the New Madrid Country Club."

Sikeston's Ben Murray and Conor MacGillivray both shot a 40 to lead all scorers.

"I'm real proud of Conor," McGill said. "He worked hard over the weekend to really get his score down and posted his best score of the year. Ben is still doing well, turning in good scores for us."

Evan Deere finished with a 42 while Kirk Hoggatt rounded out the Bulldog scoring, shooting a 43.

Sikeston will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Kennett to take on the Indians at 4 p.m.

BASEBALL

Scott County Central 7, Chaffee 6 (9 innings)

SIKESTON -- The Scott County Central Braves opened their season with a dramatic 7-6 nine inning win over Chaffee on Tuesday afternoon.

Scott Central trailed 6-2 going into the bottom of the sixth and scored three runs in the inning to cut the lead to 6-5. They tied the game after Josh Boese blasted a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the seventh.

The Braves then won the game in the bottom of the ninth when Bryan Freed kept the inning alive with a single up the middle following two quick outs. Boese played hero again with a walk-off triple that scored Freed from first.

Boese hit for the cycle and picked up the win on the mound for the Braves. Boese finished the day going 4-for-5 at the dish.

Scott Central (1-0) will be in action again today when they host Risco. Chaffee (2-4) will host Delta this afternoon at 4 p.m.

Risco 18, Clarkton 0

RISCO -- The Risco Tigers picked up a Tri-County Conference win on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Clarkton 18-0.

The Tigers scored 14 runs in the first inning and were never challenged the remainder of the game.

Caleb McCord picked up the win for Risco, pitching all five innings and allowing only three hits while walking one and striking out 11.

"I was pleased with the way Caleb threw the ball," said Risco coach Brandon Blankenship. "He's a freshman and came in and pumped strikes. He is going to be real good for our program in the future."

Sophomore Chris Pavy led the Tigers at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored, with a double and two RBI. Zack Williams was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI while Ross Carter finished 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. The Tigers finished with 10 hits on the day.

Risco (3-2) will be back in action today when they travel to Scott County Central.

Softball

Delta 10, Century 0

DELTA -- The Delta Lady Bobcats rolled past Century, Ill., 10-0 Tuesday afternoon to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Delta scored five runs in the first and put the game away in the bottom of the sixth.

The Lady Bobcats collected 12 hits in the game with Macy Parks, Taylor Keys, Katie Brucker and Myra Henson each getting two hits on the day.
