Scott City softball, Dexter volleyball both earn wins on Monday

PERRYVILLE -- The Sikeston Bulldog soccer team bounced back in a big way from their loss to the Notre Dame Bulldogs on Monday night as they blasted four goals while shutting out the Perryville Pirates 4-0.

"We didn't back down," Sikeston head coach Doyle Noe said. "We came out aggressive which was good to see especially after that tough, emotional loss to Notre Dame last week.

"Everyone stepped up and played well."

The Bulldogs got going early with a goal in the 14th minute from Evan Underwood. Hunter Williams added a goal in the 28th minute as Sikeston held a 2-0 lead at the half. Trey Tigart added two insurance goals in the second half; one in the 65th minute and another in the 76th minute.

Grant Hinton had two assists on the night while Chase Baron added another.

Michael Gipson recorded the shutout for Sikeston.

The jayvee Bulldogs also came away winners on Monday winning 3-0.

Jared Boyd, Brandon Goodwin and Caleb Newton all recorded goals for Sikeston.

Sikeston (4-2) will host Cape Central tonight with junior varsity starting at 5 p.m.

TENNIS

Poplar Bluff 8, Sikeston 1

SIKESTON -- Jacarra Lampkin recorded the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs only win on Monday night as the Lady Bulldogs tennis team fell 8-1 to the visiting Poplar Bluff Mules.

Sikeston will host Charleston today at 4 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Scott City 6, Ste. Genevieve 2

SCOTT CITY -- The Scott City Lady Rams defeated the visiting Ste. Genevieve Hunters 6-2 on Monday afternoon at Scott City High School.

Becky Burger pitched the complete game win for Scott City as Alexis Spriggs and Jenna Cummins led the way at the plate. Spriggs had two doubles in her four plate appearances while Cummins chipped in with two hits as well. Macey Hall added a double.

Scott City scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to separate themselves from a 2-2 tie.

The Lady Rams will host the Oran Lady Eagles on Wednesday.

CHAFFEE -- Holding a two run lead after the second inning, Chaffee's softball team saw visiting Naylor put up five runs in the final five innings to win 5-2.

Though Montana Estes takes the loss, errors plagued the Lady Devils as Chaffee had seven on the contest.

Next up, the Lady Devils will travel to Kennett to play the Lady Indians Thursday at 4 p.m.

EAST PRAIRIE -- East Prairie scored in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Saxony Lutheran at home on Monday.

Courtney Carden and Kali Rice had two hits apiece for the Lady Eagles.

Kelsey James went 3 for 4 for the Crusaders. Kayla Petzoldt and Logan Hunt each added two hits.

SEMO Spike

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs finished the SEMO Spike tournament with a 1-3-2 record defeating Clearwater 20-25, 25-13 and 25-16.

They ended up losing to Bloomfield, Dexter and Kennett. They split with both Gideon and Senath-Hornersville.

Asia Liggins led the Lady Bulldogs with 39 kills, 17 aces and nine blocks throughout the weekend. Trenice Greer added 19 kills, 12 aces and 46 assists, Vonteria Applewhite had 18 kills, Quesha Howard added 12 kills, Samantha Anderson had 30 assists and 10 aces while Mary Eifert chipped in 10 kills.

DEXTER -- The Dexter Lady Bearcats avenged their first set loss to the Bloomfield Lady Wildcats on Monday night with a two-set sweep to end the match winning 21-25, 25-17 and 25-17.

The junior varsity Lady Bearcats also came away with a win against Bloomfield, 25-21 and 25-10.

Zalma 2, Richland 0

ZALMA -- Zalma improved to 10-1 with a 25-12, 25-6 win over Richland.

Zalma's Lesta Newberry had four kills and three blocks while Alisha Hendrix had two aces and Angela Dickinson had a team-high six kills. Whitney Walker added four kills and Emily Merick had three.

Zalma also won the junior varsity game 25-12, 25-13

JV FOOTBALL

Farmington 14, Sikeston 0

SIKESTON -- Taking on visiting Farmington, Sikeston was unable to find the end zone as the Knights beat the Bulldogs 14-0 in jayvee football action.

Farmington took the lead with 4:14 left in the second quarter on a 3-yard run with their second touchdown coming on a 1-yard run with 4:42 left in the third quarter.

Leading the Bulldogs defense, Spencer Clark had three interceptions on the contest.

Sikeston will face the visiting Poplar Bluff Mules Monday at 4:30 p.m.

FALL BASEBALL

Risco 22, Richland 2

ESSEX -- Continuing to put up monster numbers, the Risco Tigers beat the Richland Rebels to improve to 4-2 on the season.

At the plate the Tigers were led by Chris Pavy and Kris Walker who both had three hits on the contest. In all Risco had five players with multiple hits on the game as Caleb McCord, Zakk Brannon and Luke Bixler had two hits apiece.

Luke Bixler earned the win striking out 10 while only walking two.

Risco coach Brandon Blankenship said it was good to get back on the field after not playing at all last week since their only game was rained out.

Looking for their fifth win the Tigers will face visiting North Pemiscot Friday at 4:30 p.m.
