SIKESTON -- Brandy Mason knows that it's huge to raise the goal for this year's Scott County Relay for Life to over $100,000.

"That's the largest goal in this region's history," said Mason, chair of this year's event. Last year, just over $81,000 was raised during the Scott County Relay.

However, she's also confident the amount can be raised. "We're ahead of schedule and have gotten an earlier start this year, so there are already a lot more people involved and several new teams."

This year's event "Relay Remodel -- Bigger and Better" is planned for 6 p.m. May 20 to 6 a.m. May 21 at the YMCA's North Field, said Mason. "Sometimes when you do things over the years, you just need to kind of refocus on why exactly you are doing what you're doing," she said. And that's what they intend to help participants do this year.
