Miner ordinance will require copies of motel occupants' IDs

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

MINER -- Hotels and motels in Miner will now be required to make a copy of photo identification while checking in lodgers.

An amendment to the city ordinance regulating occupant requirements for lodging establishments was approved during the regular monthly Board of Aldermen meeting held Tuesday.

Danielle Patrick, city clerk, said lodging personnel were asking to see photo IDs along with the make, model and year of the lodger's vehicle but were not making copies of the photo ID to keep on file as it was not stated they must do so in the city ordinance.

The amendment adds the requirement for them to make a copy, Patrick explained.

"It will make it easier for police if they're looking for someone," Mayor Frank Tatum said.
